Rubies of Eventide - Windowed Mode

This question comes up often enough that a walkthrough is in order. Many people ask "How can I run rubies of eventide in windowed mode?".

Well, first of all, a few warnings. The jupiter engine used by Rubies of Eventide is not the most stable engine in the world. It leaks memory. It has performance issues. The Rubies of Eventide developers implemented a workaround to many of these issues by catching the loss of focus and exiting the game. This prevents more problems than it causes. So, if you still want to run in a window knowing full well that changing focus will cause the game to exit shortly thereafter, read on.

There may be simpler ways to do this but here is one that works. Open the file c:\program files\rubies of eventide\autoexec.cfg with your favorite text editor. Search for the line that says

Next, instead of running the program "Rubies.exe", run the program "lithtech -rez rez".

Voila. You are running in windowed mode. Good luck.
